🌙 A Midnight Talk with HappyPower: Dare to Speak the Truth?

Last weekend, HappyPower hosted a late-night youth talk —part of the UN Youth Office’s #YouthLead Dialogues, calling young voices worldwide to speak up this summer. Selected voices will head straight to the UN Youth Festival this September!
We dropped the filters and spoke raw truths 👇
💬 “Why do adults think kids only ‘play around’ when it’s not serious?”Beka shared: When building play spaces in urban villages, people often ask: “Isn’t running around enough? Why build more?”But play is a child’s language of vitality — too often dismissed as a “fake need.”
💬 “Why does doing good often feel so lonely?”Dundun pointed out: Many outside teams bring in “right ideas” but cover up real conflicts in communities. The unheard voices are the ones that matter most.
💬 “How hard is it to speak up for Chinese culture abroad?”Yuxi recalled: Trying to explain to her UK mentor that 龙 ≠ dragon, only to be asked: “Is it because the dragon is long?”…Who understands that cultural gap frustration? 😭
💡 Sparks of change lit up the night too:
Xiaoding shared how AI tools for the deaf are shifting from “forcing you to sound normal” to simply helping you communicate. Universal design matters for everyone — from strollers to broken legs to aging bodies.
Mia spoke for neurodiversity: Stop only praising the “autistic genius” stereotype! Many non-speaking or low-support-needs people are the truly overlooked majority. Breaking stigma can’t just rely on insiders shouting.
